Energize Red Hook Launch

Well over thirty Red Hook residents gathered at Red Hook Village Hall on Wednesday evening (March 8) to participate in the launch of Energize Red Hook.

Mayor Ed Blundell welcomed the assembled guests with introductory remarks and linked Energize Red Hook to the values of the village and its residents.  His brief remarks were followed by Supervisor Robert McKeon who desribed how Energize will help the town meet its sustainability, clean energy and climate change mitigation goals.

The Red Hook Conservation Advisory Council (CAC), led by chairperson Laurie Husted, co-hosted and provided guests with snacks, coffee and cider.  The CAC is the primary Energize Red Hook community sponsor and the committee’s members were in attendance.  Also, at least two dozen Red Hook homeowners came to hear the Energy Coach give a compelling building science presentation.  The Energize Comfort Corps (accredited Home Performance contractors) was well represented by John Carton of Get Green Homes, John Pfeiffer of Sigma Tremblay and Greg Pullen of Malcarne Contracting.

After introductory remarks the assembled guests listened to the Energy Coach, RUPCO’s Michael Courtney, present a Building Science lecture.  The audience learned about ice dams, the house as a system, and the science behind energy efficiency and the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program.  Alice Quinn of the Energy Improvement Corporation provided an overview of the incentives and low cost financing available from the state, and gave homeowners vital information about signing up and receiving support from the Energize NY team.  The evening ended with at least fifteen homeowners signing up for Energize.  Once they select a contractor they will be scheduling their comprehensive home energy assessment in the coming weeks.

The entire program was recorded by Panda TV and will be broadcast on the Red Hook public access channel in the coming weeks.
